President Cyril Ramaphosa certainly didn’t become the leader of South Africa without knowing how to charm the crowd, and a sweet gesture on Valentine’s Day showcased this.
A video posted by Head of Digital Communications Athi Geleba has gone viral, with Ramaphosa dishing out roses to a few lucky ladies.
Ramaphosa takes a cheeky jab at Mzansi men
In the video, one flattered woman enters the frame with a rose, telling the rest of the room, ‘Don’t be jealous’ as Ramaphosa follows along with more roses to hand out.
“I doubt whether you will ever get a flower! You know, these guys I don’t think they ever give you Valentine’s flowers.” Ramaphosa tells one lady.
Women in the crowd chimed in, agreeing that flowers weren’t on the cards for them today, other than a special bloom from the President himself.
One man pops his head into the room to see if Ramaphosa would be his Valentine, a request the President swiftly rejected.
“For you? No ways!” Ramaphosa laughed.
A light-hearted moment amid a busy schedule
The year has been in full swing with the State of the Nation Address and subsequent debates behind Ramaphosa, it’s reassuring to see that the nation’s leader can stand strong despite such difficult tasks.
This light-hearted moment was captured aboard a plane, likely taken during Ramaphosa’s trip to Tanzania for a Heads of State summit in Tanzania on the conflict in the eastern DRC.
Ramaphosa says the summit provides a ‘beacon of hope’ for the troubled eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
“As a member of SADC and the African Union, we have a responsibility to support all efforts to bring peace and stability to our fellow African nation, which has been racked by war for more than three decades.”
With such grim circumstances facing the country, it’s wholesome to see Ramaphosa sharing the love this Valentine’s Day.
Have you received flowers for Valentine’s Day from your partner or is Ramaphosa right?
