A single R30 ticket, purchased through the FNB App using the Quick Pick option, has won the largest PowerBall jackpot 2025—an eye-watering R110 million. The draw, which took place on Tuesday, marked the end of a 15-time rollover streak that had steadily pushed the jackpot higher.

ITHUBA, the National Lottery operator, confirmed the historic win and extended support to the lucky ticket holder.

“We are thrilled for the winner and are ready to provide full support through trauma counselling and financial advice,” said ITHUBA CEO Charmaine Mabuza.

This monumental win comes when many South Africans face economic challenges, making the PowerBall jackpot even more significant. Although the identity of the winner remains unknown, ITHUBA confirmed that they have a full year—365 days—to claim their prize.

Claiming PowerBall jackpot millions comes with guidance

According to Mabuza, all National Lottery winnings are tax-free and are paid out within 72 hours of a valid claim.

“The winner will claim their prize at an ITHUBA office and has 365 days to do so,” she said. This process ensures privacy and proper guidance for such large amounts of money.

Players who purchase tickets through banking platforms like FNB are notified directly by the bank if they win. But when the winnings exceed R250 000, winners must personally present themselves at their nearest ITHUBA office.

Banking apps drive digital lotto revolution

This victory also highlights a growing trend in how South Africans play the lottery. Digital platforms like FNB’s banking app are becoming the preferred method for many. With convenience and accessibility at the forefront, more winners are emerging from mobile and online entries.
