Quinta Brunson brought the laughs to Saturday Night Live this weekend, as she hosted SNL for the second time.

QUINTA BRUNSON’S OPENING MONOLOGUE

The Abbott Elementary star, who stands at just 1.50 metres, kicked off her monologue with a cheeky nod to her height.

“I’m proof you can do anything you put your mind to, even if people look down on you, whether it’s because of where you come from, or literally because you’re only 4’11”.

Brunson didn’t just talk about being short – she sang about it. With a showtune-inspired number, she celebrated “shorties” everywhere, according to People.

She gave shout-outs to icons like Simone Biles, Kendrick Lamar, and Tom Holland.

“Being short is fantastic, being short is perfectly okay. I’m an affordable date since I can get tipsy from just one glass of wine,” she joked. This drew instant laughs from the live audience.

Then came the surprise: pop star Sabrina Carpenter, herself just 1.52 metres tall, crashed the stage.

“I heard you talking about being short, so I figured I’d drop by,” Carpenter quipped, joining Brunson for a duet about the perks and quirks of being petite.

The pair bonded over eating short ribs and reading short stories.

“One shorty to another: When you eat short ribs, does it just taste like ribs?” Quinta Brunson asked. “I never thought about it like that, but yeah!” Carpenter replied, sparking more giggles.

SNL cast member Marcello Hernández, who stands at 1.68 metres, jumped in to “look super tall” beside the duo.

And then, in a twist, former NBA superstar Dwyane Wade – a towering 1.93 metres – joined the group. He joked about, “Being 6’4” in the basketball world is like being 4’10” everywhere else.”

HUMOUR ABOUT HEIGHT

The group harmonised, “We’ve been the same height since kindergarten. Life is just more fun when you’re fun size.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Quinta Brunson took on sketches as Harriet Tubman and an elderly mother with a bizarre life insurance policy. She expertly proved her comedic range.

Musical guest Benson Boone rounded out the night with two soulful performances.

For South Africans, where humour about height and self-deprecation is always a hit, Brunson’s monologue felt right at home. As she put it, “Shorties, tonight, this one’s for us.”
