Paranormal justice medium Kandis Starr has rubbished the testimony of state witness Laurentia “Renz” Lombaard in the Joslin Smith trial.
The US psychic claims that the woman – a former accused and now Section 204 witness – is “lying” to “cover up” what she believes really happened.
Kandis – who has followed the case since little Joslin went missing in February 2024 – has often spoken about her beliefs that the little girl was killed by someone she knew.
Joslin’s mother, Kelly Smith, her boyfriend, Jacquin “Boeta” Appolli,s and pal Steveno van Rhyn are all on trial over charges of child trafficking.
The trial is taking place under the High Court, sitting at the Saldanha Bay Centre.
KANDIS STARR ACCUSED JOSLIN SMITH STATE WITNESS OF ‘LYING’
In a video uploaded on her YouTube channel, Kandis Starr called out the “lies and BS” she believed state witness Laurentia “Renz” Lombaard was stating under oath.
The paranormal justice medium claimed the women’s body language – nervous demeanour, shifty eyes, and breaking eye contact – were possible signs that she was being untruthful.
Kandis also questioned Renz’s court makeover.
She said: “I want to know who is sponsoring this lady because that is what’s happening here. This woman is an addict, and addicts don’t tell the truth.

“How do you go from complete poverty to hair done, make-up done, new outfits. That’s not an easy thing to acquire”.
Kandis then name-dropped a politician she alleges was involved.
She added: “Has anyone ever looked at Gayton [McKenzie] and where his money comes from? Because here in the US, its all illegal stuff, allegedly.
Kandis dismissed Renz’s claims of Kelly Smith selling Joslin to a sangoma.
She continued: “I don’t believe she was there, and I don’t believe Kelly was there. I believe that Kelly does think something happened to Joslin. But she is not 100% sure [because she was high on drugs]”.
In previous supernatural “readings,” Kandis claimed that Joslin was hurt by men close to her.
She added in her video: “This is a story. They don’t want to be charged with murder”.
DOES THE STATE PAY SECTION 204 WITNESSES?
In the comments section under Kandis Starr’s post, many South Africans questioned whether the state was paying the state witness.
According to the Criminal Procedure Act, a Section 204 witness can receive indemnity from criminal charges, provided that their testimony and evidence help incriminate the accused.
In the case of Joslin Smith, the National Prosecuting Authority offered Lourentia Lombaard witness protection in exchange for her testimony against Kelly Smith, Boeta Appollis, and Steveno van Rhyn.
According to the Department of Justice, witnesses are entitled to payment of a prescribed fee in certain instances; however, this is “not compensation” for their testimony. The money is intended to “limit the witness’s expenses due to court attendance and, in certain instances, loss of income”.
