Plenty of PSL players are linked with some of South Africa’s biggest clubs.
But, while Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have remained fairly incognito leading up to the January transfer window, Kaizer Chiefs have dominated the headlines, linking themselves with several world-class players.
The rumour mill
- Orlando Pirates’ Monnapule Saleng has been pivotal in their quest for PSL glory. His attacking impact interests Belgium Pro League side Standard Liege, who could put in an offer for the 27-year-old once the season concludes.
- Kaizer Chiefs are looking into the Buccaneer’s forgotten man, Zakhele Lepasa.The dynamic striker has fallen out of the pecking order for club and country.
- PSL veteran Bongani Zungu is a free agent piquing the interest of AmaKhosi management as they look to fill the void left by injured Edson Castillo.
- Goalscoring machine Michael Olunga is one of Kaizer Chiefs’ top targets; however, his R172 million valuation might be unrealistic following seven signings during the offseason and having the highest-paid coach in the league.
- The Sea Robbers have entered the race for Polokwane right-back Thabang Matuludi. Kaizer Chiefs tried to sign him before the 2024/25 season but nothing materialised.
More on the Saleng situation
“It’s not like the interest died off. It is just that last season he was not playing much so it was hard for the teams interested in him to monitor his progress but they were checking what was going on. Now, since he is back in the thick of things, the interest has arisen again”, an anonymous source told Soccer Laduma.
“It’s Standard Liege that have shown interest. Actually, last season, they were also interested in Mohau Nkota while Monaco SC were interested in Saleng. So, now it is believed that the Standard Liege scouts are looking at Saleng since Nkota has not been playing much since his promotion”, they concluded.
