It never rains but pours for PSL outfit Royal AM after players were barred from training. Royal AM’s woes emanate from MaMkhize’s R40 million debt that she owes the South African Revenue Service.
ROYAL AM BARRED FROM TRAINING; ORLANDO PIRATES FIXTURE NOW IN DOUBT
Reports have it that security guards barred Royal AM players and staff members from training at their training grounds in Pietermaritzburg.
Football blog SS Sisonke Sporting also shared the news on X.
The blog posted, “Royal AM’s ongoing turmoil deepens as coaches and staff still await salaries, with training sessions disrupted and players left locked out.
Their upcoming clash with Orlando Pirates on January 23 is now in doubt amid growing uncertainty.
However, an unnamed Royal Am player confirmed the news to the media. Speaking to TimesLive, the player said, “There is no training. We have not trained since December because the coaches have not been paid for two months.
The Royal AM player added, “On Monday, when we got there [to the training base in Pietermaritzburg], the security guys were on strike and didn’t want to open the gate.
“They haven’t been paid for three months. The coaches have been at home because they are owed salaries.”
NEXT PSL FIXTURE IN DOUBT
The incident reportedly happened earlier this week after players showed up for training after being assured their December salaries.
Last week, Royal AM’s fixture with Chippa United was suspended because of salary woes. Against the match postponement, it was established that players hadn’t received their December salaries.
Against the news, MaMkhize also issued a statement sharing more details about the situation at the club.
Part of her shared press release reads, “The club’s management team, led by our CEO and General Manager, has been working diligently with the curator to secure the necessary permissions to release funds for salary payments.
“It has always been the ethos of Royal AM to prioritise the well-being of our personnel, and we remain dedicated to upholding that principle despite the current challenges.”
However, against the latest reports, the club is yet to address the rumours. The team has not trained for almost a month, and according to reports, their next fixtures are now in doubt.
Surprisingly, Royal AM’s next fixture is with Orlando Pirates at the Harry Gwala Stadium on 23 January.
However, no official statement has been issued yet, but fans and reports are convinced that it might be rescheduled.
