- Former IFP member Prince Mzonjani Zulu, now a high court attorney, left politics to focus on education and runs his own law firm.
- Once a school principal, he earned a PhD, joined MKP without seeking a position, and works at Unisa while pursuing a second Master’s in law.
A former school principal expelled from the IFP after demanding a leadership change from Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi has been admitted as a high court attorney.
Prince Mzonjani Zulu left the IFP with its national chairperson Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi and helped form the National Freedom Party (NFP) in February 2011.
Zulu is a prince from the eGazini royal house, which supports King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.
He told Scrolla.Africa that he chose education after spending years in politics.
“I am no longer active in politics because I decided that education comes first in my life. I have just been admitted to the high court and I now have my own law firm,” said Zulu.
He has also bagged a PhD in education.
Zulu was expelled from the IFP in 2011 after he organised a march against the party in support of kaMagwaza-Msibi, who was IFP chairperson at the time.
Eventually however he left the NFP after much infighting in the party and formed his own political grouping called the Academic Congress Union.
His party contested the 2019 general elections with a focus on unemployed graduates.
He later dissolved the party and joined Umkhonto Wesizwe.
“I’m with MK now but am no longer active. I’m just a member of the party,” said Zulu.
Zulu was a school principal in eShowe before he joined politics. He is now doing a second Master’s degree, specialising in law. He also works at the University of South Africa as a marker.
“I dissolved my political party and joined the MKP but told Jacob Zuma that I want to work and don’t need any position, because my focus now is on academia. Politics hurt me, which is why I chose to join MKP without any positional ambitions,” said Zulu.
He said he can’t survive without education and that he reads a lot.
His law firm trades as MZ Zulu and Associates.
