This year, a remarkable history comes full circle. It was 140 years ago that gold was discovered on the Witwatersrand, bringing fortune-seekers including miners fresh from the Californian gold rush.
Fast forward to today and Gold Bar Whiskey is the premium American spirit matured in Californian wine barrels that now embodies this pursuit of the extraordinary on South African shores.
Just as the Witwatersrand’s rich gold deposits transformed South Africa and fuelled a legendary era of prosperity, Gold Bar Whiskey pays homage to the power of discovery with a spirit crafted to deliver a premium experience.
Each sip represents an invitation to explore a taste inspired by the richness, allure, and brilliance of gold, embodying the legacy of those who shaped history.
Emblazoned with the Lady of Fortune, Gold Bar Whiskey personifies the very spirit of the intrepid and successful adventurer. It is the drink of choice for the true whiskey connoisseur.
Amongst its numerous accolades, the globe-trotting spirit has won Double Gold at the world-renowned San Francisco International Spirits Competition as well as Best in Show at the Denver International Spirits Competition.
Gold Bar Whiskey launched in South Africa just months ago and is distilled from a blend of rye, corn and barley whiskies. Selected from distilleries across the US, it is then finished in wine barrels from California’s world-renowned wine region.
Expertly crafted, it shows a golden amber colour with aromas of burnt sugars and honeyed grains that open to fresh orchard fruits and red berries.
On the palate, it is bright and warming with soft sweetness and a creamy mouthfeel, displaying subtle flavours of red fruits, baking spices and gentle wood smoke. The finish is smooth and clean with lingering vanilla sweetness.
Underscoring its American heritage is the spelling of whiskey with an “e”. It exemplifies the gold standard in elegance and luxurious enjoyment.
Gold Bar Whiskey’s home is the San Francisco Bay, where it spends most of its time settling in a barrel rickhouse beneath rustic Californian Redwood beams. It is blended by second-generation winemaker from Napa Valley, Montgomery (Monty) Paulsen.
Monty’s passion for spirits and wine began in the early 1970s at his family’s vineyard in Sonoma.
In Gold Bar Whiskey, its reaches new heights.
The Gold Bar Whiskey bottle alone is a unique work of art. It is made of glass and shaped like a solid ingot. Each Gold Bar bottle is individually numbered with its unique bottle number, blend number and bottle lot displayed on the three foil stamped labels.
Each release features an iconic ‘Lady of Fortune’ coin – a replica, collector-grade coin that is hand-pressed onto each individual bottle. The coin is a symbol of true American craftsmanship and the company history.
The coins are individually minted at America’s oldest operating private mint. In fact, the mint’s history dates to 1835 and predates the introduction of the legal tender banknote.
With this exceptional craftsmanship and refined blend and, Gold Bar Whiskey captures the essence of what it means to appreciate – and celebrate – the finer things in life.
