Residents and businesses in parts of Tshwane will experience temporary electricity and water supply disruptions on Thursday, 13 February, due to planned maintenance work by the City of Tshwane. The affected areas include Pretoria CBD and Hammanskraal, where the municipality will upgrade critical infrastructure.

Power outage to affect Pretoria CBD and surrounding areas

The City of Tshwane’s Energy and Electricity Departmentwill shut down the power supply to the Princess Park 132/11kV substation to maintain the electricity network. The outage, which will last from 11:00 to 13:00, will affect Pretoria CBD, Pretoria Townlands, West Park, Salvokop, and Asiatic Bazaar.

The municipality assured residents that the work is necessary to ensure the reliability of the power supply.

“The City of Tshwane apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be caused as a result of the above-mentioned work,” the city stated.

Residents and businesses are advised to treat all electrical points as live at all times during the outage.

Water Supply Disruption

On the same day, the Water and Sanitation Department will shut down the water supply to areas serviced by the Babelegi Reservoir from 7:00 to 17:00. The 10-hour shutdown will allow technicians to restore control valves inside the Babelegi Booster Pump Station to their original functionality.

As a result, residents in Babelegi Industrial Area, Ramotse, Mandela Village, Marokolong, Refills, and Portion 9 will experience water supply interruptions. The city emphasised that maintenance is crucial to extending the lifespan of the reservoir’s infrastructure.

“We appeal to all residents to use water sparingly,” the city said.

Apologies and Precautionary Measures

The City of Tshwane apologised for the inconvenience caused by the planned maintenance but stressed the importance of the work.

The municipality urged residents to plan for the disruptions and report any unexpected issues. Meanwhile, businesses in the affected areas may need to make alternative arrangements to minimise the impact of the outages.
