Vigilant members of the Oudtshoorn SAPS arrested four suspects, aged 20, 34, 35, and 40, after a vehicle chase led them to seize drugs valued at approximately R97,000.
The Chase and Arrests
According to South African Police Services, at around 22:45 on Tuesday 1 April 2025, police were conducting routine patrols along Johan Gelderblom Street when they spotted a suspicious vehicle.
Upon noticing the officers, the occupants attempted to flee, initiating a chase.
During the pursuit, police observed the suspects discarding a parcel from the moving vehicle.
Police apprehended and arrested the suspects on charges of dealing in drugs.
Upon inspecting the discarded parcel, officers discovered 1 943 mandrax tablets and 27 half tablets.
In addition, a search of the vehicle revealed an undisclosed sum of cash.
The drugs and cash were seized as evidence.
Police Information
The suspects, believed to be from George, are currently in police custody and will appear in the Oudtshoorn Magistrates’ Court once formal charges are laid.
The successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts by the SAPS to combat the illicit drug trade and ensure the safety of local communities.
Recent Arrests Linked to Similar Operation in Oudtshoorn
Following another major operation in the area, the SAPS issued a statement on 27 March 2025, detailing a coordinated intelligence-driven operation by the Oudtshoorn Crime Prevention Unit and Crime Intelligence.
This operation led to the arrest of four individuals on charges of drug trafficking, fraud, and money laundering.
According to TheCitizen, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at a residence on Adderley Street, Oudtshoorn.
The search uncovered over R50 000 in cash concealed in a bedroom.
Further investigation revealed 12 packets of tik (methamphetamine), 1 190 mandrax tablets, and 103 grams of cocaine hidden in a wooden structure at the back of the property.
Police arrested a 33-year-old male on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Both operations underline the SAPS’s relentless efforts to combat the drug trade and organised crime in Oudtshoorn.
