Recently, Orlando Pirates revealed that the end of the current season would mark end of head coach Jose Riviero’s tenure with the Soweto giants. Coaching legends Pitso Mosimane and Rhulani Mokena’s names have started to come up in conversations regarding who is set to step in for the Spanish tactician.

The current state of South African football can be described as mildly chaotic as Shauwn Mkhize’s Royal Am face imminent expulsion due challenges with SARS, Kaizer Chiefs continue to find their rhythm, while fans deliberate whether the coach, players or front office is to blame, and lastly, the recent announcement of Jose’s departure from Orlando Pirates has sent fans into a panic as they attempt to figure out who the suitable candidate to take over the reigns is.

It comes as no surprise that Esteghlal FC coach Pitso and Wydad AC coach Rhulani have emerged as favourites to fill Jose’s shoes, as their track record speaks for themselves. Both former Mamelodi Sundowns coaches, Pitso and Rhulani have made a name for themselves as one of the more impactful coaches in PSL history.

Although some have voiced their scepticism due to his failure to pull off an impressive tenure at Wydad, some Pirates fans believe that Rhulani might be exactly what they need, as Jose has laid the foundation and found the different pieces. These fans believe that Rhulani’s tactics could prove to be beneficial for the Soweto Giants, as they cite his history of winning. Rhulani’s contract with Wydad is supposedly coming to an end this week, and with things not looking great that that side, hopes of him joining the Buccaneers continue to intensify.

On the other hand, others believe that Pitso would make for a better fit. Citing his track record, these fans believe that at the level that the Buccaneers have been playing at, coach Pitso would take them to higher levels and turn them into an even more competitive side, and potentially take the league.
