MAYOR CONFIRMS PICK N PAY REEDS HAS REOPENED

In a tweet on Tuesday, 4 March, Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya confirmed that Pick n Pay Reeds in Pretoria had reopened.

She tweeted: “Congratulations to @PicknPay Reeds for swiftly resolving the recent fines issued against them. Our health inspectors have confirmed their premises are now compliant and have lifted the prohibition notice”.

The mayor posted a pic of the store that displayed a placard welcoming returning customers. It read: “With enhanced standards and a refreshed offering. We have undergone several upgrades and look forward to welcoming you back”.

Moya also posted a look inside the kitchen, which appeared spotlessly clean.

Last month, the Tshwane Mayor was met with horrific conditions at the Pick n Pay branch, which was confirmed to be a franchise store.

This included:

  • Dirty equipment
  • An infestation of cockroaches in the bakery
  • Changing room in the same place as fresh produce
  • Rotting fruit and vegetables being repacked for sale
  • Pots with food without lids
  • Meat products that were stored at inappropriate temperatures.

NO BRIBES

Mayor Nasphi Moya also responded to a tweep who asked her if the owners of the Pick n Pay had bribed her to reopen the store.

“No, they did not,” she replied.

The mayor has been repeatedly praised for her good governance in Tshwane. This includes closing illegal spaza shops, fixing broken roads, lights, and robots, impounding vehicles without licences and keeping the city clean.

Moya has also been praised for her pledge to provide clean drinking water to her municipality and the surrounding areas.
