Orlando Pirates fans are grateful for VAR following the team’s 0-0 draw against Pyramids in the CAF Champions League semi-final match on Saturday evening.

The first leg at FNB Stadium ended without any goals, but the Buccaneers are likely to be satisfied with the outcome.

The visitors had two goals disallowed by VAR. Fiston Mayele’s first-half goal was ruled offside, and despite several opportunities, the Congolese striker was unable to convert.

Orlando Pirates also had their chances but were lacklustre in front of goal. VAR played a crucial role in helping them escape potential defeat after a late goal from Pyramids was disallowed. The Buccaneers’ fans expressed their gratitude for VAR, as it helped their team secure a draw at home.

“I commend Pyramids for good sportsmanship. Orlando Pirates escaped through the hole of the needle, all thanks to VAR. Up the bucs, we remain humble, marching to the second leg in Egypt,” tweeted @DerrickSeraga.

“If this game was played 5 years ago without VAR it means Pirates would have lost by 2 goals to nil,” @MisInfoCrusher.

Both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns were saved by VAR on Saturday. Masandawana played to a goalless draw against Al Ahly at the Loftus Versfeld in the early semi-final first leg kickoff.
