June Steenkamp – the mother of murdered model Reeva Steenkamp – shared a poignant message to the public on Mother’s Day.
Twelve years ago, the blonde bombshell was gunned down by boyfriend Oscar Pistoirus in his Pretoria home, after allegedly mistaking her for a home intruder. A year ago, the former Paralympian was granted parole after serving half of his murder sentence behind bars.
Sadly, June has also lost her husband, Barry Steenkamp, who “died of a broken heart” in 2023.
REEVA’S MOM SHARES SAD MOTHER’S DAY POST
On the official social media account for the Reeva Rebecca Steenkamp Foundation, June Steenkamp shared a message to mark Mother’s Day.
She shared: “I send extra love to the moms who are having a difficult day because their children are no longer with them. I share your pain and sadness and pray that your memories give some form of comfort.
She added, “The joy of being a mother lasts forever.”
June’s heartbreaking Mother’s Day post comes months after she remembered the 12th anniversary of Reeva’s death on Valentine’s Day.
She shared on social media: “My heart aches for everyone who has lost a loved one. Give the ones you love an extra hug today.”
AKA’S MOM ALSO SHARES POIGNANT MESSAGE
Reeva’s mom was not the only grieving parent who marked Mother’s Day without their child.
Lynn Forbes, the mother of slain rapper AKA – real name Kiernan Forbes – also reflected on the passing of her eldest child.
She shared, “To every kind of mother. Those raising, those remembering, those missing, and those dreaming. Happy Mother’s Day.
“May love find you wherever you are, just like the moon watches over you every night. With all my heart”
