Orlando Pirates transfer news: Mosimane, Basadien, McCarthy

Today’s Orlando Pirates rumour wrap looks at the latest on targets Pitso Mosimane and Fawaaz Basadien. There’s also a mention of Benni McCarthy.

Basadien is a top priority for Orlando Pirates

Left-back has been a problem position for Jose Riveiro. Although Deon Hotto is a super-dependable fan favourite, he’s not getting younger. Also, left full-back isn’t his preferred role. Stellies’ Fawaaz Basadien has made 36 appearances across all competitions. 19 of those have been in the league, with three goals and three assists. Former Chiefs youngster Omega Mdaka, still only 21, has also been heavily involved with 14 appearances across all competitions. If Stellies feel that Basadien wants to leave, they already have a replacement lined up, and he’s in their first XI already. Pirates could take advantage of the player’s apparent desire to move to Soweto.

Pitso Mosimane to replace Jose Riveiro at Orlando Pirates?

The great man needs no introduction. Wouldn’t it be ironic if Jingles, a man courted by Kaizer Chiefs for years, ended up coaching their rivals, Orlando Pirates? It’s a bit of a wild card option, but never say never in football. With Pirates making the three-time Caf Champions League winner their top priority, would Jingles be tempted by the opportunity?

Is Benni the greatest Bafana player in history?

Benni wasn’t at Orlando Pirates for a long time, but he was certainly with the Buccaneers for a good time. His best years as a footballer were spent in Europe, but his time with Orlando Pirates was decorated with plenty of silverware, punctuated by a stunning treble in 2012. The new Kenya manager is arguably South Africa’s finest ever footballer.
