Orlando Pirates tactician drops exit bombshell but delivers hopeful message for fans.

As the season winds down, The Bucs head coach Jose Riveiro has confirmed he will step aside at the end of the campaign. But instead of leaving the fans in doubt, the Spanish tactician delivered a powerful promise, the club’s future is in safe hands.

Riveiro joined the Buccaneers in 2022 and immediately wrote his name into the club’s history. Over the past three seasons, he led the team to five major trophies, including three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups, cementing his legacy as one of the club’s most successful managers.

Pirates: One more shot at glory

The Pirates aren’t done yet. Riveiro still has a shot at adding one more trophy to his impressive collection. His team will face arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, 10 May at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

While the Buccaneers have fallen behind in the Betway Premiership title race to dominant leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, Riveiro emphasized that the team remains mathematically alive and hungry for more silverware.

‘This is a club project, not a Riveiro project

Speaking after a 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows on Tuesday, Riveiro credited the entire club for the success, not just his leadership.

“This is a club project, not a Riveiro project, I’ve answered this question many, many times,” he said from Moses Mabhida Stadium.

He assured fans that the next coach will have all the tools to succeed. “The club knows what they are doing. Whoever is coming is gonna be the right person and will have the support and will find himself in a good platform to continue where we’re going to stop at the end of the season.”

Future looks bright for the Buccaneers

Riveiro emphasized that Orlando Pirates is bigger than any one individual and that change is just a part of football’s cycle. “Football is a cycle, and Orlando Pirates is a huge institution; nothing is going to change because Riveiro is in or out.”

To the fans who fear uncertainty, Riveiro’s message was crystal clear. “The Buccaneers don’t need to be concerned about that because the future is brilliant for the club, and it’s gonna be alright.”

The Sea Robbers are preparing to turn a page, but under a new leader, they aim to continue writing a story of dominance and ambition.
