Orlando Pirates news: Saleng, Rapoo, Mayele, Hotto, new coach

Orlando Pirates have several flams to put out, and it’s perhaps the Monnapule Saleng fire, which is the hardest to deflame.

The 27-year-old is obviously talented; he has proved it time and time again. However, his six-month hiatus has raised doubts about his ability to keep outside clubs at bay, suggesting that even if the Buccaneers want to sell Saleng, they lack interest.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates have yet to announce Jose Riveiro’s successor over a month after the Spaniard left for North Africa, and it appears their list of candidates is diminishing, as Pitso Mosimane and Rulani Mokwena are both said to be in talks with Egyptian giants Zamalek and Pyramids FC.

More rumours from Mayfair

Former Stellenbosch star Deon Hotto is set to stay at the club following their decision to offer the veteran playmaker a contract extension.

Meanwhile, both of the Soweto giants (Pirates and AmaKhosi) are in the race for rising star Neo Rapoo.

“Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are both keen to sign SuperSport United left-back Neo Rapoo ahead of the new season,” an inside source revealed.

“His performances as he led South Africa U20 to the Africa Cup of Nations title earned him interest in Scandinavia and the Gulf but sources as Matsatsansa have confirmed Chiefs and Pirates are both seriously after the player who is seen as future senior national team left-back.”

“With Orlando Pirates having released Paseka Mako and the retirement of Innocent Maela, their interest on the promising full-back comes as no surprise, while Chiefs are looking to remedy a position that has plagued them in the last couple of seasons.”

Who else should Orlando Pirates sign?
