Orlando Pirates to appoint Rulani soon
38-year-old Rulani Mokwena will be the next Orlando Pirates manager, according to several local sources. The former Sundowns head coach oversaw 35 matches with Wydad Casablanca in a spell that lasted under 10 months. He returned an average of 1.60 points per game in that sample. Mokwena held assistant and caretaker manager roles at Pirates from 2017 to 2019.
What’s the holdup?
According to iDiski Times, Rulani wants to build a team of backroom staff before committing to Pirates. This includes recruiting Michael Loftman as his assistant.
“Negotiations between Mokwena and Pirates are in advanced stages, with the 37-year-old ready to take the head coach job, but finer details remain the issue with his technical team still being discussed.”
Is Moremi the new Segolela?
24-year-old AmaZulu winger Tshepang Moremi enjoyed a productive 2024-2025 campaign. He made 28 league appearances for Usuthu, scoring three goals and assisting seven. He’s got pace and directness to burn. Pirates fans will remember another speed merchant, Tlou ‘Gautrain’ Segolela, who Moremi isn’t dissimilar to.
