Monnapule Saleng will remain at Orlando Pirates for two more seasons after the club reportedly exercised its option for another two years.
ORLANDO PIRATES REPORTEDLY EXERCISES TWO-YEAR OPTION IN SALENG’S CONTRACT
The news has since left many trying to connect the dots about Saleng’s future. Earlier this week, the publication reported that the ‘star is unhappy’at Orlando Pirates and wants to leave.
Close sources to the star revealed that he is set to submit his transfer request at the end of the season.
However, there is a new twist to Saleng’s saga after FarPost reported that the club had exercised its additional two-year option, tying down the star at the club despite his woes.
His contract expires in June 2025, and the additional two years will keep him at Orlando Pirates until 2027.
Little is unknown whether the two-year extension is the reason behind the star’s fallout with the club. However, against the news, the club is yet to confirm the reports that have since set social media abuzz.
The 26-year-old star joined Orlando Pirates from Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Ea Lla Koto ahead of the 2021-2022 season.
However, he was loaned out to Moroka Swallows before he joined the team again. Since then, he has been one of the club’s star players and has won big with the Soweto giants.
Saleng hasn’t starred for Orlando Pirates since December, despite his command of the game and flair. His last game for the Buccaneers was against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stages.
‘THE PROBLEM IS THE CONTRACT’
Since then, he has been on the sidelines, and the club claims his absence is due to ‘personal issues.’
Amid his woes, the agency that manages the star revealed that the “matter involves significant issues at the core of the employer-employee relationship that requires resolution”.
The agency added that Saleng remains “committed to addressing these matters through the appropriate legal and professional channels”.
However, over the weekend, Saleng’s parents opened up about his woes with his father, noting that his salary was one of the problems.
Speaking to Sunday World, the Orlando Pirates star’s father said, “The problem is the contract. We would want him to stick with Pirates because it is one of the biggest clubs in the country.”
Rumour mill has it that the star player is apparently earning around R70 000 at Orlando Pirates.
