Orlando Pirates have wielded the axe, allowing two talented senior stars to leave the club.

Otladisa joins Sekhukhune

Katlego Otladisa has left for Sekhukhune United on loan. Days prior, Gilberto returned to his former club Petro de Luanda until the end of the season.

“The Club can also confirm that it has reached an agreement with Sekhukhune United for the services Katlego Otladisa,” Orlando Pirates said. “The 28-year-old moves across to Babina Noko on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.”

Gilberto leaves Orlando Pirates on loan

Winger Gilberto arrived for R11.5 million at the start of the campaign. He’s struggled to impose himself on South African football. The 23-year-old moves back to his former club for the remainder of the 2024-2025 campaign. He’s only managed 12 appearances for the club this term, including five in the league, with zero goals and zero assists.

“Orlando Pirates has reached an agreement for the loan transfer of Angolan international Gilberto to Petro de Luanda for the remainder of the season.

“The move sees Gilberto return to his hometown club, pending the successful completion of a medical.”

Will we see Saleng on Derby Day?

Mercurial winger Monnapule Monnapule Saleng scored a match-winning brace to help Pirates to a 3-2 win against Kaizer Chiefs in April 2024. The 26-year-old has been mysteriously absent from training and matchday squads in recent weeks. This has fuelled a media frenzy around what’s happening with the Bafana man. ‘Private’ reasons have been cited by the club. Saleng has only appeared three times in the Betway Premiership this term, with a return of two goals. He hasn’t featured in a competitive match for the club in 2025.

Ben Youssef’s title promise

In the medium term, new assistant boss Khalil Ben Youssef envisages Betway Premiership title success. In the next two or three years, in fact:

Vis SABC Sport:

“To be honest with you what we’ve discussed about the project at Kaizer Chiefs is to beat the other team then next year or in two or three years it’s to fight for the league. We have to come back, when I was young, I remember I used to see Kaizer Chiefs in the African Cup [CAF competitions] in the finals or semifinals, it was one of the best teams in Africa,” Ben Youssef said.

Will Gilberto return to Pirates as a new man or is he not good enough?
