Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates clinched Nedbank final berth last weekend.
The former stunned Mamelodi Sundowns as Ashley Du Preez rifled the visitors into the lead with one minute of regular time remaining. Back in Soweto, Kabelo Dlamini’s 22nd-minute goal was enough to keep a rampant Marumo Gallants outfit at bay.
A Soweto derby in the final will have most South African fans screaming for joy – the Kaizer Chiefs faithful, who haven’t seen their side in a final for six years, will perhaps be the loudest.
Pitso next in line?
As Orlando Pirates stay on course for the quadruple, they have yet to confirm who next year’s head coach will be. According to reports, the Soweto giants have circled Pitso Mosimane as their priority target.
“There are a few coaches to be considered for different reasons, but apparently it’s believed that Pitso [Mosimane] is their preferred candidate,” a source stated.
“It’s believed that he is their first priority at the moment. That’s what the team wants as things stand. Even if they have not spoken to him (behind the scenes) yet, he is their first priority.
“They are saying if they (Pirates) managed to work with Jose Riveiro for three years, then why can’t they go for a coach like Pitso? So, they know what they are looking for, and they know quality doesn’t come cheap,” the source added.
“But as you know, although he is their first priority, he is not the only one they are looking at. As I said, there are different factors they are looking at.”
