Landlords Pressuring Students Amid Payment Delays

According to East Coast Radio News, in recent months, students have come out in numbers claiming that many landlords have been pressuring them for extra payments or evicting them due to delays in NSFAS funding. Faced with sudden financial strain, students came to realise that the upfront fees being demanded were not included in the agreed accommodation costs between NSFAS and the landlords.

NSFAS has addressed these issues, with spokesperson Ismail Mnisi saying, “This list will be subject to approval by the respective institutions to confirm each student’s eligibility for accommodation or transport.” He added, “NSFAS would like to assure landlords that for students not included in the global list from the solution partners, payments will still be processed based on the registration template submitted by the institutions.”

NSFAS Commitment to Supporting Students

NSFAS has confirmed that they are continuing to work towards resolving the housing subsidy delays, and they ensuring that students are not going to be unfairly evicted or burdened with additional costs. The aim is to bring relief to students who rely on financial aid for accommodation and other essential needs.
