New ANC leaders promise not to remove current Legislature members but demand better work.
- The party aims to rebuild support after getting only 17 percent of KZN votes.
The ANC’s new leaders in KwaZulu-Natal say they won’t remove anyone from their jobs at the Legislature but they will make sure everyone works harder.
Jeff Radebe, coordinator of the ANC’s interim leadership in KZN, made this clear on Wednesday at Seme House in Durban after their first meeting.
“No one will be removed from the KZN Legislature or any other position. But all our deployees will be held accountable as we want to improve service delivery even though we are now in opposition,” said Radebe.
This comes after some ANC members at the Legislature feared they would lose their jobs to make way for the new interim leaders.
Radebe said the party’s poor performance in KZN was shameful. “The 17 percent votes we received in KZN is because of arrogance,” he said.
The party now wants to win back white, coloured and Indian voters they lost in the 29 May general election. They also want to repair relationships with their alliance partners.
The ANC’s national leaders have given the interim structure 3 to 6 months to:
– Rebuild connections with different parts of society
– Prepare for the 2026 local elections
– Monitor ANC members working in provincial and local government
