There is a lot of support for EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, who has been banned from attending the party’s political activities.
EFF founder Julius Malema sees Ndlozi as the single biggest threat to his grip on power in the party.
For the past four months, Malema and his loyalists have been accusing Ndlozi of being among EFF members who will leave the party to follow former deputy president Floyd Shivambu into the MK party.
At first, Malema claimed Ndlozi failed to use his social media platform to defend the EFF from a public relations nightmare that was sparked by Shivambu’s departure.
Malema also claimed Ndlozi’s wife, actress Mmabatho Montsho, liked Shivambu’s posts on social media platform X – proving that the family supported the destruction of the EFF.
Right through this debacle, Ndlozi remained quiet and went on with his parliamentary work and the work of the party.Â
Ndlozi, who has not been charged with anything, has been placed on special leave and banned from attending the party’s four-day conference in Nasrec, Johannesburg in December.
Last week, the EFF leadership banned him from attending a meeting of the party’s top leadership where preparations for the EFF’s elective conference were discussed.
The EFF Student Command, which is known to support Ndlozi, is expected to be dissolved during the upcoming conference.
Ndlozi, who graduated with a PhD while still in his 30s, is very popular among college and university students.
Affectionately known as the People’s Bae, Ndlozi is seen as the most senior EFF member who is not Malema’s praise singer.
Some EFF members had already nominated him for the position of deputy president.Â
With the elective conference still four weeks away, the groundswell of support for Ndlozi has the potential to spiral out of control, create political factions in the party and threaten to split the conference delegates.
