Multi-Award-winning actress, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi fondly known as Lady Nam has recently been handpicked by an organisation named Leading Ladies Africa, to be among the 20 Black women who made an impact in the entertainment industry in 2024.
According to the organisation, Nambitha became a suitable candidate because she started with a Showmax masterclass, where she shared the fine details of her career with aspiring creatives.
She also hosted the Essence Film Festival in New Orleans, which brought her South African flair to the festival. The thespian also won a National Film and Television Award for Best Actress in Savage Beauty and Empini.
“Lady Nam’s journey from Beyonce’s handpicked star in Black Is King to her activism for staunch dark-skin representation continues to inspire us. This year she proved her versatility by balancing her acting, business and advocacy work with flair. With her global #SheSpeaks movement thriving and her star burning brighter than ever, 2024 was the year Lady Nam cemented her place as a South African icon,” cited the organisation.
Nambitha who is renowned for the roles she portrayed on The Queen, Scandal! and recently Empini took to her Instagram page, to express her gratitude to the organisation.
She said in her caption: “Thank you Leading Ladies of Africa for the encouraging recognition and such a beautiful write too.”
The Leading Ladies of Africa known to be a women’s rights organisation that works to advance gender-inclusive leadership, equity and economic justice for African women and girls, also took to their Instagram page to share the 20 inspiring entertainers, among them are Tyla and former BONA cover star, Thandiswa Mazwai.
