Nabi Wins Nedbank Cup, but Chiefs Future Uncertain

Nasreddine Nabi’s future at Kaizer Chiefs continues to be questioned – even after ending Kaizer Chiefs’ ten-year drought.

Perhaps the possibility of missing out on MTN8 qualification has management unsure whether he is the man for the job, but is that enough to justify his exit? Yes, it’s been a tumultuous season for the Tunisian, but one has to remember what he inherited and how far they have come, winning the Nedbank Cup final against CAF Champions League semi-finalists Orlando Pirates.

AmaKhosi had just concluded their worst-ever campaign when he stepped foot on Naturena last offseason, finishing tenth on the log. Since then, a fleet of players have signed, and that takes time to mould into a cohesive, three-point machine.

But Kaizer Chiefs haven’t helped themselves, losing miserably against the opposition on several occasions, sometimes in successive fixtures. However, a Nabi departure risks reversing his progress and putting the Glamour Boys back to square one.

Solomons speaks

Wing back Dillan Solomons acknowledged that he new of the rumours, but believes it hasn’t affected the squad, saying, “People have been talking, but there’s nothing we can do about the people who’re talking.”

“We just have to do what we can do and that’s coming to training every day and putting in the work, showing the coach that we are here to work and that’s all we can do.”

“We can only control what we can control and if people are going to talk outside, that’s their opinion. We will see, we don’t know what’s going on.”

“You can categorise it [the game against Polokwane] as one of the biggest games of the season. It’s like a cup final for us. We know how important this game is.”

Should Kaizer Chiefs keep Nabi?
