Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has given his verdict on Samkelo Zwane’s progress at the club following their emphatic win against SuperSport United.
Amakhosi claimed an impressive 4-0 win over SuperSport in the 2024 Carling Knockout Cup Last 16 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night. The Soweto giants found the back of the net courtesy of Gaston Sirino, Ranga Chivaviro, Yusuf Maart, and Ashley Du Preez.
Chiefs have joined Stellenbosch FC, Marumo Gallants, Cape Town City FC, Magesi FC, and Mamelodi Sundowns as clubs that have booked spots in the quarter-finals of the Knockout Cup so far.
In a dominant display against the Gavin Hunt-coached team, Samkelo Zwane was one of the outstanding performers on the pitch. The talented midfielder played the whole 90 minutes for the Chiefs, and he was crucial in breaking opponents’ attacks and playing forward passes.
Zwane is expected to play a big role at Kaizer Chiefs this season alongside other academy graduates like Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba, and Mduduzi Shabalala.
WHAT DID NASREDDINE NABI SAY ABOUT SAMKELO ZWANE?
Nabi has revealed that Samkelo Zwane has changed while admitting that the holding midfielder’s tactical awareness has improved.
“It’s true that Samkelo Zwane has worked a lot in the past few months, and we believe that he has changed because before, there were some tactical issues and concentration because he’s still young,” Nabi said.
“Sometimes he would want to do unnecessary things, but it’s through games like this [against SuperSport] that our youngsters will grow.
“It’s not only him, it’s Shabalala, Duba and Vilakazi. We believe that it’s a capital investment for the club to have those players coming from the academy, and we need to show that all those are going to have a chance if they prove themselves.
“They still have a big margin to progress, and we haven’t seen the better of them yet, but we believe that in future, we will see the better of them.”
