Just as President Ramaphosa thought he could breathe a sigh of relief regarding the Phala Phala matter, Julius Malema’s EFF has said not on their watch as they appeal the National Assembly’s decision against adopting the section 89 panel report.
Since its inception almost a decade ago, the EFF and Julius Malema have garnered a no-nonsense tolerating reputation as his radicalism has steered his party to its current standing. This time, the red berets have joined forces with Vuyolwethu Zungula’s African Transformation Movement (ATM) to challenge Parliament’s decision to not adopt an independent report spearheaded by former chief justice Sandile Ngcobo.
The crux of this situation is that the EFF and ATM believe that the president’s failure to declare the large amounts of foreign currencies allegedly hidden away in his homestead constitutes a crime, and should be treated as such. The matter has now been brought to the ConCourt after multiple investigations were conducted and found the president clear of any wrongdoings.
As expected, South Africans have been highly invested in the matter as they anxiously and eagerly await the final outcome. Users have applauded the EFF and Vuyo Zungula for their courage to take on arguably the most powerful man in the country.
Today’s ConCourt case on Phala Phala is massive.
The EFF deserves credit for persisting while media and NGOs have largely slept. Even the DA has fallen silent.
The president and parliament have, so far, got away with a cover-up. That can’t continue.

Other users have called out members of the GNU, citing hypocrisy as far as them remaining silent about Phala Phala when they had been vocal prior to the inception of the GNU.
Praying for the DA to find Jesus.
It does not mean if you aren’t forming a government that automatically everyone else is corrupt.
It’s amazing how some GNU partners don’t need to account for a Phala phala no more.
Ministerial posts here and there and corruption is over. 😂 pic.twitter.com/ASXFS38T8a
