The Randburg Magistrates Court has postponed gossip blogger Musa Khawula’s case to 29 January for a formal bail application.
Khawula who was arrested earlier this month in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, faces charges of crimen injuria and contempt of court.
MUSA KHAWULA REMANDED IN CUSTODY
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the 33-year-old allegedly posted defamatory statements on his social media platform, which has a large following, between 10 and 12 October 2024, with the alleged intention of harming the dignity of businessman Zesimdumise Nxumalo.
Khawula alleged that the 44-year-old businessman cheated on his then-pregnant wife and former Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green-Nxumalo. He later apologised.
NPA spokesperson in Gauteng Phindi Mjonondwane said the state was prepared to proceed with the bail application during the proceedings. However, the defence requested a postponement, stating they needed additional time to prepare a comprehensive bail statement.
“Khawula is remanded in custody until the hearing of his formal application,” Mjonondwane said.
Khawula was appearing for the second time in court about the matter. Initially, the state indicated that it would oppose bail as the gossip blogger has a pending cases of murder, and reckless and negligent driving.
