Morris move to Kaizer Chiefs: The inside story revealed

Tashreeq Morris move to Kaizer Chiefs and the inside story revealed.

SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has opened up about the unexpected transfer of Morris to Kaizer Chiefs, shedding light on why the club had no choice but to let him go. The striker’s brief stint at SuperSport came to an abrupt end after just four months, having signed as a free agent in October last year.

Despite scoring twice in ten appearances across all PSL competitions, Morris couldn’t turn down a lucrative offer from the Soweto giants. Matthews admitted that Chiefs’ financial package was simply too good to match.

Chiefs’ offer was too big to compete with

Matthews explained that the financial disparity between SuperSport and Chiefs played a crucial role in the transfer.

“Morris came at the age of 31 and said Kaizer Chiefs want me, and this is what they’ve offered me. And I couldn’t offer him half of what they offered,” said Matthews as quoted by FARPost.

Rather than keeping a disgruntled player who might regret missing out on a better financial opportunity, SuperSport chose to let him go.

“So, should I have a miserable Tashreeq who resents the fact that he could have been somewhere, earning more than double [his salary at SuperSport]?” Matthews questioned.

How Saile strengthens SuperSport’s attack

While Morris moved to Chiefs, SuperSport gained Christian Saile in return, and Matthews believes the swap deal will give his team a crucial edge in attack.

“So, you look at the situation and say, okay, how can I benefit the club? How can I benefit the team?” Matthews stated.

Saile brings much-needed speed, something SuperSport’s other strikers lacked.

“He can get behind the defence, he can break the line, he’s got that added pace which [Samir] Nurkovic and Bradley [Grobler] do not have. So, for me, I’m going to be practical. Morris, Bradley, and Nurkovic together—none of them had pace.”

Win-win deal for both clubs?

With Morris securing a lucrative deal at Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport reinforcing their attack with Saile’s speed, this transfer could turn out to be beneficial for both clubs. While Chiefs gain an experienced forward, SuperSport add an element of pace that was previously missing in their frontline.

Only time will tell if this trade-off pays dividends, but for now, both teams seem satisfied with their choices.
