Monnapule Saleng-Orlando Pirates REUNION becomes a reality

Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng was spotted in training for the first time in four months, prompting speculation of an unlikely return.

The 27-year-old had an electric start to the season, scoring two goals in his opening three league games, becoming an early frontrunner for PSL Player of the Year, which is now firmly in Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s hands.

A Saleng exit appeared imminent, but not anymore. “Even though the coach [Jose Riveiro] was excited to have his star player back, he didn’t feel that he was ready for this trip to Algeria. I’m sure you’ll see him in the coming games, but he’s not going to play against MC Alger on Tuesday,” The Citizen revealed.

Saleng to stay?

Earlier in the year the Orlando Pirates-Saleng saga seemed too far gone as he continued to miss matchday squads. One inside source always believed he would return, saying, “Who is saying that [Saleng will leave]?,

“There is no such thing, and he remains a Orlando Pirates player. He would have been released in January if that was the case, but that didn’t happen because he is still in the club’s plans,” the source mentioned.

“You can see that there is space for him in the like when [Mohau] Nkota didn’t have a great game in the derby, he [Saleng] would have been an option to replace him had he been available, but he was not in the matchday squad. He will be back.”

Should Orlando Pirates welcome back Saleng?
