- Ngizwe Mchunu criticized Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla’s arrest, calling it a waste of money and an attempt to humiliate the Zuma family.
- Duduzile was freed with a warning after facing charges of inciting violence during the 2021 unrest, while Mchunu distanced himself from her politically.
The controversial self-proclaimed president of the Bhinca nation, Ngizwe Mchunu believes that the arrest of Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla was a waste of taxpayers’ money.
A staunch supporter of Umkhonto Wesizwe Party leader Jacob Zuma, Mchunu came out in support of Duduzile – with whom he had fallen out after the July 2021 unrest that followed the former president Zuma’s arrest.
“I didn’t go to court for Duduzile’s case because I was not even aware that she was appearing. I only heard while I was in Mpumalanga on Thursday that Duduzile has been arrested and she was appearing at the Durban Magistrate’s Court.
“But I maintain that this was just an act to humiliate the Zuma family. How could you burn the nation by saying ‘we see you’? Duduzile won’t even burn a tyre on the street,” said Mchunu.
Duduzile was freed with warning in connection with the unrest and public violence that occurred in July 2021, in various parts of South Africa.
She faced charges of incitement to commit terrorism, and two counts of incitement to commit public violence. The state alleged that during the period of 29 June to 17 July 2021 in various places within South Africa, she unlawfully and intentionally incited others to commit terrorism using social media posts.
On the other hand, Mchunu was acquitted in 2023 by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court for inciting violence with his Azikhale slogan.
His relationship with Duduzile soured when he chose not to continue to support Jacob Zuma during the formation of the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party.
Instead he was seen with ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa in Durban and in Gauteng during the Siyanqoba Rally.
