Former Kaizer Chiefsstriker Collis Mbesumasays there is only one way Ranga Chivaviro can earn a new contract.
The 32-year-old Amakhosistriker has faced criticism from fans in recent weeks. Despite scoring three goals in his opening five matches across all competitions, Chivaviro has failed to win over Chiefs fans. Since joining the Soweto giants from Marumo Gallants last year, the big striker has not really found the net regularly which has seen him jeered by supporters.
Mbesuma knows a thing or two about scoring goals having scored 25 goals in the 2004/2005 season at Kaizer Chiefs. He said Ranga should find the back of the net more in order to earn a new contract.
“Well, that [contract extension] will go down to the coaches and the club’s management; at least he has a clause for an extension,” Mbesuma told FARPost.
“But at the end of the day, it’s up to him and what he brings to the club; he has to score goals and help the club achieve its goals.”

“To be honest, what can save him and earn him that extension is only performing well. By that, it’s scoring goals because he’s a striker, and that’s his only job on the field, to score,” Mbesuma added.
Ranga Chivaviro started Amakhosi’s first five league matches but lately, Nasreddine Nabi has opted to play Ashley Du Preez upfront. The former Stellenbosch FC striker is a fan favourite and is much more preferred than Ranga.
Since the departure of Collins Mbesuma, Kaizer Chiefs have struggled to find top strikers. Knowledge Musona and Samir Nurkovic are two forwards who came close to replicating ‘Ntofo Ntofo’.
