Mamelodi Sundowns have announced their first signing of the January transfer window in Jayden Adamsthis weekend.
Adams joins Sundowns from Stellenbosch FC after being admired by the club for quite a long time.
Adams might not be the only Bafana star signed by Sundowns this window. This is after this publication reported that striker Lebo Mothiba was spotted at the Masandwana training ground. They even go as far as saying he trained with some squad members at the club.
Mothiba confirmed to be training with Sundowns
Now according to FARPost Mothiba seems to have impressed at Sundowns training and is set to be signed!
“Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba has been offered a short-term contract by Mamelodi Sundowns. The 28-year-old arrived in SA on Saturday and is in talks with the reigning South African champions. Reliable sources indicate that Sundowns have proposed a six-month contract to Mothiba, keeping him at the club until the end of the current season. This short-term agreement allows both parties to evaluate Mothiba’s fitness and form before considering a longer-term commitment. The decision now lies with the striker. Mothiba’s arrival at Chloorkop comes at a critical juncture for Sundowns, who are currently engaged in multiple competitions, including the Betway Premiership, the Nedbank Cup, and the CAF Champions League.” Wrote the publication.
Prior to these news, this publication had reported that Mothiba was on trial at Wydad Casablanca. But in the end, it was said that he didn’t do enough to convince South African coach Rulani Mokwena to recommend him. There was also a report that claimed he could be on the radar of French Ligue 1 side Montpellier. That doesn’t seem like it will materialise, however, with Sundowns the most likely destination.
Player set for short-term deal
Although Mothiba has never hidden his admiration and desire to play for Sundowns, the link is still surprising. Masandawana already have Iqraam Rayners, Peter Shalulile, Arthur Salesand Lucas Ribeiro at their disposal. It remains to be seen where the former FC Strasbourg player fits in under Miguel Cardoso.
