SuperSport United versatile player Lyle Lakay has made an honest admission about his form, acknowledging that he is not pleased about it.
The 33-year-old is in his second season back at SuperSport after spending some time at Cape Town City FC. He has featured just five times under Gavin Hunt.
The former PSL Defender of the Deason says he has set targets that he feels he is nowhere near to achieving.
WHY SUPERSPORT UNITED VERSATILE PLAYER IS NOT PLEASED WITH HIS FORM OF LATE
“Personally, I am not happy. You know I am not happy. I have a target for the season, and obviously, I am not near that, even though it’s the beginning of the season,” Lakay told FARPost.
“But you know all is not lost, and I can always pick up, as far as me helping the team. As I said, I have set myself a target of goals and assists.
“The team’s form isn’t good because we just have to continue working hard and rectify that, obviously by scoring goals and winning games.”
LYLE LAKAY MAKES ADMISSION ON THE PROSPECT OF A RETURN TO BAFANA BAFANA
Lakay has not featured for Bafana Bafana since the AFCON qualifier against Morocco in 2022. But he was part of the South African side during the 2023 COSAFA Cup.
He tells this publication that although he is happy for those who have grabbed the opportunity in the national team, he still has ambitions to return to the side.
“The door is not closed. But at the end of the day, it’s the coach’s decision,” added Lakay.
“I just have to do what I have to do and focus on the team first. That will come afterwards if it does come. Having said that, everybody who is on the national team has been doing well, and hopefully, they can continue.”
