There’s an abundance of world-class talent blossoming in the PSL, some of whom seem destined for Europe.

Mamelodi Sundowns already have one hand on the trophy, while Orlando Pirates, who have four games in hand, are beginning to show early signs of fatigue following their lack of signings in the January transfer market.

Rumours

  • The PSL’s leading goalscorer, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, is having a season to remember, attracting several foreign suitors. Sundowns boss Miguel Cardoso has hinted at a possible exit, telling fans to enjoy watching him while they still can.
  • Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly still keen on Stellenbosch left-back Fawaaz Basadien after failing to land the 28-year-old in the summer.
  • Orlando Pirates are still in the hunt for Polokwane City defender Thabang Matuludi.
  • MLS club FC Tulsa are monitoring Sekhukhune United’s Jamie Webber – Kaizer Chiefs have followed suit.

How good is Ribeiro?

Ribeiro is one of the finest imports to have graced the PSL, able to score and assist with ease while causing havoc between the defending lines.

I think it’s safe to say that Brazilian boss Cardoso is a fan.

“One of the things I said to Lucas when I arrive here, knowing that he was performing well in the league, was to try to tell him that there are always things that can be done,” Cardoso said.

“So, try to make him understand the that he should have to continue to develop himself, [that] should be present everyday in his life,

“We work hard on the mindset of the players a lot. I think the message is entering most of them, with commitment, with the work, with the strong mindset of getting better, with respect for everyday work,

“Lucas can go further on. We should profit as much as possible while we can from him and let’s hope the club can keep him for long because he is a very important player,

“Lucas is a player to play at a high level, international, no doubt.”
