Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Robson Muchichwa says Amakhosi management should allow Nasreddine Nabi to be in control and implement his vision.
The 59-year-old Tunisian coach has had a tough start to his tenure, finishing ninth in the league. His saving grace, however, was winning the Nedbank Cup last season.
Having brought in new players, Nabi will have his second pre-season with Chiefs, hoping for a much-improved season. Muchichwa insists that the former Young Africans coach should be given freedom.
“Coach Nabi needs to be strong. If you hire a coach only to control them, then you aren’t going to make progress as a club,” he told SNL24.
“You should always seek a coach who cannot easily be controlled. They must allow Nabi the opportunity to implement his vision. If he fails, we will all acknowledge that failure.
Nabi has won a trophy with Chiefs in his first season
“Let’s not forget that while Nabi won a cup, he also finished outside the top eight, and Kaizer Chiefs is a top-eight club,” Muchichwa added.
“He needs to come up with fresh ideas to keep the dressing room motivated.
“He must not let anyone dictate his team or his style of play. If someone is controlling you, it’s likely because you’re not doing something right.
“Nabi should stay true to his strengths and not change what made him successful just to appease someone else.” said the former Chiefs midfielder.
“He must adhere to his beliefs. If he gets fired, it should be for following his own football philosophy, not due to outside influences,” he concluded.
Should Amakhosi give Nabi full control?
