Sad news for the music industry as legendary music producer Irv Gotti has died at the age of 54.

Irv Gotti was known for his work as a record executive, music producer, entrepreneur, and the founder of the company Murder Inc. Records.

WHAT HAPPENED TO IRV GOTTI?

According toThe Hollywood Reporter, the cause of Irv Gotti’s death is unknown since the family didn’t disclose it. It is worth noting, however, that the music producer had health issues in recent years. He also struggled with diabetes which is something that he talked about.

STRUGGLING WITH DIABETES

Gotti’s struggle with diabetes made him open up about it when he was on an episode of Drink Champs in 2023.

What he said about the disease:

“It’s rampant with Black people. What it does is, it starts deteriorating your body. I’ve been diagnosed with diabetes forever; it’s hereditary. It’s reversible but you gotta change the way you eat, all that. But you know what’s f**ked up with diabetes? So anything that you’re gonna like or tastes good, horrible for you. Now what’s some nasty s**t? Broccoli … you supposed to eat some leaves or s**t like that.”

HOW THE NEWS OF IRV GOTTI’S PASSING WAS ANNOUNCED?

The news of Gotti’s passing started to spread after his family shared a statement on his official Instagram account to announce his passing.

The statement said:

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Irving ‘Irv Gotti’ Lorenzo, on February 5, 2025. Surrounded by family and friends, he departed this world, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him and the countless lives he touched. Our dad was an incredible man, a true visionary who transformed the hip-hop industry and changed the game for artists and fans alike. His passion for music and dedication to his craft inspired many, and his contributions will continue to influence future generations.”

The statement then continued as following:

“As we navigate this difficult time, we kindly ask for privacy while we grieve the loss of our dad, son, brother, uncle, and friend. We take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on through his music and the love he shared with all of us. Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging time. With love, Angie, Sonny, and JJ.”

WHO WAS IRV GOTTI?

Irv Gotti, whose real name was Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr, made a clear impact on the industries of hip-hop and R&B during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Some of the artists the producer worked with include Ja Rule, Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, and Ashanti. In 2022, Ashanti opened up about ‘dating’ Irv Gotti.

He worked at Def Jam where he left a great influence and brought many artists to the label including Jay-Z. He then started his own company titled Murder Inc. in 1998.

EX-WIFE REACTS TO GOTTI’S DEATH

Irv Gotti’s ex-wife, Debbie Lorenzo, has shared an emotional message on her Instagram account. They were married for over a decade and then divorced in 2013. She said:

“Irv, you will be greatly missed. I can’t believe I’m saying that! Married, divorced, great friends, and so many life lessons—everything we’ve been through good and bad has molded me into the woman I am today! God never wastes anything; He uses everything for His ultimate glory! Irv the Icon, you ignited the music industry with your presence, vision, and talent. You shattered records and did it all on your own terms. You had a truly big heart. You fought long and hard, and now you’re resting. Know that we raised three beautiful, compassionate young adults, and I’m honored that God chose us to be their parents. It brought me joy to see them take such great care of you. Rest well; I love you my friend.”

REMEMBERING THE MUSIC PRODUCER

With Gotti’s passing, the music industry lost one of its important figures during the late 1990s.

Gotti is survived by his three kids named Angie, Sonny and Jonathan Wilson; his mother, Nee Nee Lorenzo; his brother, Chris Lorenzo, and sisters, Tina and Angie.
