Lay’s returns South African’s favourite chip flavour

South Africans will be happy to know that one of their favourite chip flavours – Sour Cream and Onion – has made a return to supermarket shelves.

As reported by Cape Town Etc, the popular crisps officially returned on 3 March, after consumers flooded social media with pleas and petitions, hoping to bring back the delicious chip flavour.

A Change Organisation-led campaign was behind the chip’s return, with thousands of supporters sharing their memories and wish to see the flavour brought back. Their efforts paid off when PepsiCo South Africa, the company behind Lay’s, officially confirmed that the crisps were back for good.

“We all love a good comeback – especially when it’s legendary!” the company said as per Cape Town Etc.

PepsiCo also revealed that the Argentinian creamy pepper steak flavour had returned.

Simba also brings back firm favourite

In what is another victory for chip-lovers, Simba also recently returned an iconic chip flavour to SA stores.

A previously reported, Simba revealed in a social media report that they had heeded the call to bring back the fan-favourite Tomato Sauce flavour. The post contained a clip of countless screenshots from the public who begged the PepsiCo brand to reinstate the flavour.

However, the brand omitted to mention that the flavour was not the same formula, as it is no longer associated with Tiger Brand’s All Gold Tomato Sauce. This time, the company collaborated with rival company Wellington’s Tomato Sauce, which falls under the Heinz Foods brand.
