Durban – The IFP has confronted Durban restaurants about hiring foreigners instead of South Africans. Party leaders, including eThekwini councillors and senior executive Joshua Mazibuka, visited a popular Steers restaurant to complain about their hiring practices. They told management to stop giving preference to illegal foreigners and to hire locals to help fight high unemployment. The IFP leaders argued that waiter jobs aren’t scarce skills that need foreign workers.
Mthunzini – Police have arrested five people with R1.5-million worth of stolen Eskom equipment near Empangeni and Mthunzini. Operation Vala Umgodi officers found the suspects at a house in Ngwelezane on Sunday with smart meters, copper and other Eskom items. The property was stolen during a business robbery at Sabhuza Reserve on 17 March 2025.
Pietermaritzburg – KZN Traditional Affairs MEC Rev. Thulasizwe Buthelezi has warned people not to use izimbawula (homemade heaters) during winter as they’ve destroyed many poor communities. “The province has suffered many devastating disasters recently. With winter coming, wildfires, dangerous heaters in informal settlements, snow, and strong winds happen often. These disasters destroy homes, businesses, and farms, and sadly, kill people,” the MEC said. Buthelezi will lead a Winter Disaster Awareness Campaign with the Provincial Disaster Management Centre, municipalities and partners to protect communities.
