Howick: Transport MEC Siboniso Duma is facing angry protests from the DA, residents, businesses and farmers over the terrible state of roads in the KZN Midlands. They marched to the Transport Department’s Vulindlela Depot in Cedara to hand over a memorandum demanding immediate action on collapsing road infrastructure. The memorandum, backed by various Midlands groups, slams the department’s failure to maintain and fix roads in the region. It describes crumbling gravel and tar roads, stalled projects and government inaction that has brought daily life, farming and tourism to a standstill.
Melmoth: A court has sentenced a 39-year-old man to life plus eight years for raping and robbing his 80-year-old relative in March 2023. In the early hours of 13 March 2023, the old woman was sleeping when she heard banging on her door. The man attacked her before she could get out of bed, hitting her with his fists. She suffered serious injuries and bled heavily. When she tried to scream, he strangled her and raped her. He then stole R400 and ran away.
Ulundi: Traditional Affairs MEC Rev. Thulasizwe Buthelezi has congratulated Dr. Nomfundo Mcoyi on becoming the first female president of the South African Funeral Practitioners Association. Buthelezi said Dr. Mcoyi is a trailblazer who sets an inspiring example for others. “Her commitment to community service is not only inspiring but also serves as a model for many in society,” Buthelezi said.
