KZN news bites: Confusion as IFP fires Zulu prince from mayoral position

Amajuba – The IFP National Executive Committee has fired its mayor of Amajuba district municipality, Prince Ndabuko Zulu. In a statement released on Thursday afternoon the party said Ndabuka was requested to step down with immediate effect. The IFP said this decision was taken in the collective interest of Amajuba district which oversees Newcastle, Dannhauser Municipalities in northern KZN. “The IFP extends its gratitude to Prince Ndabuko Zulu for his dedicated service and leadership during his tenure. Deputy mayor Thembelihle Mthembu will assume the role of acting mayor until further notice. The party’s relevant committees will oversee the process of filling the mayoral vacancy,” the statement said.

Ugu – The ANC used a Christmas party for elderly people in the Tolomane Mnyayiza region in Port Shepstone to celebrate its by-election victory of Ward 2 in Pietermaritzburg under the uMsunduzi municipality. In a statement the party said the ANC’s victory is also being celebrated at Mpisane sport ground, 200km away from the ballot boxes that sealed the fate of other political parties. “The bubbling feeling of excitement has engulfed the entire Tolomane Mnyayiza region. The Christmas lunch for senior citizens was a never-to-be-forgotten celebration of the historic recovery of the ANC,” said provincial chair Siboniso Duma. The regional leadership were in a jovial mood alongside the grannies who celebrated the double by-election victory of defeating both the MKP and IFP.

Moses Mabhida – Umkhonto Wesizwe Party secretary general Floyd Shivhambu has apologised to members of the party who were disappointed after MK failed to provide them with transport to attend the party’s first anniversary at Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban on Sunday. Shivhambu said that people from Harry Gwala district in Kokstad, Zululand, Umkhanyakude, Amajuba, and Pietermaritzburg couldn’t get transport to Moses Mabhida because of the challenges of sabotage that affected the party. Meanwhile, MK leader Jacob Zuma met with traditional leaders who accused deputy secretary general Nombuso Mkhize of blocking them and treating them like inmates at the anniversary.
