Kaizer Chiefs are given new hope, as Itumeleng Khune gives verdict on new acquisition Tashreeq Morris.

Chiefs legend Khune has shed light on the club’s anticipated signing of Morris from SuperSport United. Khune’s experience and insights highlight what Morris brings to the table and the hurdles he may encounter as he dons the iconic Amakhosi jersey.

Khune, who has faced Morris on the pitch, praised the striker’s ability to perform under pressure. “Tashreeq is a great player. When he made his debut for Ajax [Cape Town], he scored against me. He did score against me. And even in the last match that they played, he scored against Kaizer Chiefs. So he’s a man for big occasions,” Khune shared with Soccer Laduma.

Time and patience: What Morris needs

Khune urged Kaizer Chiefs supporters to embrace Morris with open arms and allow him the space to adapt and thrive.

“I just urge the supporters to give him the support that they are giving to any other player that has worn the Kaizer Chiefs jersey. Let’s judge him based on what he does on the field, let’s not judge him based on the past, the teams that he played for, or the record because unfortunately, he wasn’t getting game time where he was,” Khune emphasized.

Fans’ encouragement can make all the difference as Morris embarks on this new chapter in his career. With proper support, he can rise to meet the challenges that come with representing South Africa’s most passionate football club.

Morris’ career revival

Morris’ move to Chiefs represents a chance to reinvigorate his career. Khune acknowledged the striker’s journey through multiple clubs and the importance of finding stability.

“He has moved to four teams already since he made his debut in the PSL, so hopefully he will have a home to settle down to play regularly and obviously to show the rest of South Africa what he is capable of. If he plays, performs, and scores goals, he will stand a chance of representing the country because even in 2016 I was with him in the U23 squad,” Khune noted.

Chiefs challenge: Mental toughness required

Joining Kaizer Chiefs is not just about talent; it’s about mindset. Khune offered a reality check for Morris, reminding him of the pressure that comes with playing for a club of Chiefs’ stature.

“Kaizer Chiefs is a completely different beast, so he must just prepare himself mentally. Yes, a lot is expected from him as a striker. He must just take it like a man and know what his role and responsibility is. As a striker, you score goals; as a goalkeeper, you keep clean sheets. That’s how you are judged,” Khune explained.

Khune also emphasized the importance of resilience. “You mustn’t take it to heart or personally when being scrutinized. Take it as motivation. To be quite honest, he’s been in the PSL for long and has played against Kaizer Chiefs a lot of times.”

Embracing the Chiefs spirit

Khune concluded with a message of optimism and encouragement for Morris.

“He knows the experience of how Kaizer Chiefs fans love their club, how they love their players, how much they love winning. So he needs to make sure that he gets there, enjoys his football. And he will have the best time at Kaizer Chiefs,” Khune said.
