Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Mandla Masango feels this is the perfect opportunity for the club to end their trophy drought.

Amakhosi reached their first domestic final in six years by beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup semi-final. They will now face archrivals Pirates next month, hoping to win their first silverware in a decade.

Masango feels the win against Masandawana could revive the team.

“I think this win will most definitely do a world of wonders for these guys because now, you know, when you’re in a big game, it gives you that motivation factor that you can build momentum from,” he said as per SABC Sport.

Kaizer Chiefs are looking to end their trophy drought

“Now everyone is confident that we can be able to win, we beat Sundowns, why not beat Chippa. So I think this was a massive boost to morale for the team, I won’t lie.”

The former Kaizer Chiefs fan favourite maintains that the club would put South Africa on the map if they feature in the CAF Competition.

Kaizer Chiefs trophy drought dates back to 2015

“It was a good thing that Chiefs managed to get into the final because now we need more teams in the African competitions. As you can see, Pirates and Sundowns, they’re doing well, and it really boosts the national team in terms of having that experience and competing at that level, you know,” Masango continued.

“So, it’s good and I hope also Chiefs get to that level where they compete in Africa as well. We are very much optimistic that the trophy drought will come to an end, that’s what we’re looking forward to, they have a chance, it’s just 90 minutes to rewrite everything to erase all the 10 years,” said the former Kaizer Chiefs star.

“So, this is the opportunity for them, it’s there for the taking,”

“Now, it’s just a matter of being consistent, that’s all,” Masango said.
