Kaizer Chiefs transfer news: Kwinika, Khune, big clash coming

Kaizer Chiefs have decided on the future of the last man to win the league title with Amakhosi. The international break is also almost over!

Kwinika will be shipped off as younger recruits are favoured

Rushwin Dortley and Inacio Miguel arrived at the start of the campaign. They’ve become Nasreddine Nabi’s first-choice pairing in the centre of defence. At best, Zitha Kwinika is the fourth or fifth choice in that position, with Given Msimango preferred while Dortley is sidelined with a knee issue. Yes, Kwinika is versatile and can fill in at right-back, but it’s unlikely he’ll play any minutes.

Kwinika’s Kaizer Chiefs salary isn’t justified

Earning a reported R370k a month, that’s an expensive benchwarmer. Reports back in July indicated new boss Nabi wasn’t satisfied with what he saw from the defender in Turkey, and those reports have turned out to be true. Kwinika, astonishingly, is the only remaining player in the Chiefs squad who was with the club when they won the league in 2015. Loan him out for one season, and the club will save R4.44 million in wages should his new club take that salary on board, as is customary.

Khune says he’s the GOAT

Instagram and TikTok’s blind ranking trend sees people name their top five or top ten in a category. The twist? They only get given one name/concept/brand at a time, without knowing what the others are. Recently, Itumeleng Khune was asked to do exactly this with the best goalkeepers ever to grace the South African top flight. He placed Ronwen Williams at the top of the rankings, only to change his mind when his name came up later in the challenge.

Arrows test next for Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs dominated possession and mustered 17 shots at the Cape Town City goal but failed to get on the score sheet. Mduduzi Shabalala missed a gilt-edged opportunity in the 42nd minute, but, in truth, Chiefs didn’t create much else of value. In their following match, they fell to a dreadful 2-0 defeat at Richards Bay. It was a result that left them in eighth place in the Betway Premiership with 29 points after 22 games. Ninth-placed Chippa can usurp Chiefs for that position if they win their two games in hand. Meanwhile, Golden Arrows in tenth have three games in hand on Amakhosi and only trail them by five points. It’s not unthinkable to suggest that Arrows could leapfrog their more illustrious rivals by the end of 2024-2025. Knox Mutizwa was the only goal-scorer as Arrows claimed a slender 1-0 win away to Polokwane, but they followed that with a 1-0 loss at Magesi. Intriguingly, Abafana Bes’thende hosts Chiefs on Saturday, March 29th at 15:30. That looks like a pivotal clash in the race for a top-eight finish.
