Kaizer Chiefs hope to lure more players following seven signings during the offseason.
Nasreddine Nabi’s start in Soweto has ebbed and flowed, impressing from the start but a series of draws and defeats have onlookers questioning whether he is the man for the job.
The Tunisian tactician has several high-profile PSL players on his shortlist before the summer transfer window, having begun negotiations weeks ago.
Nabi’s top three prospects
Oswin Appollis
Polokwane and Bafana attacker Oswin Appollis is fast becoming a household name and was nearly a Kaizer Chiefs player before the season beganbut a ‘missing’ chairman – Johnny Mogaladi – blocked a deal from happening but may struggle to stop the 23-year-old from leaving this January.
“I’m more than happy to still have them in the team [Appollis and Matuludi] because they are the core, and they are the most important players for us, even though those guys are touting for them,” said Polokwane coach Phuti Mohafe.
Asenele Velebayi
Asenele Velebayi is one of Bafana Bafana’s brightest stars and was also close to signing for Kaizer Chiefs over the winter but Cape Town City rejected their offers, believing the bids to be under value.
It seems the winger is ready to join a star studded team, saying, “My peers, the likes of (Rushwin) Dortley, have done well. I don’t see what will stop me from reaching those levels or surpassing them. At the moment, I’m focused on my job at Cape Town Spurs, but that does not mean I don’t think about the future,” he told FARPost.
“What I just avoid is losing focus and affecting my game. I can only pray that we emerge successful as a team. As an individual, I aim to break into Bafana Bafana. Seeing Dortley and Relebohile Mofokeng makes me feel that as youngsters, we are not far.
“I believe that is a big platform for me. We all want to rise, but it’s a process. As a player, the goal is to grow and be a Bafana player. But when interests from bigger teams come, we must be able to deal with the level of attention,” he added.
“I envy what they (Mofokeng and Dortley) are doing at club and national team, and it is something that I also hope to do.”
Lungelo Nguse
Another player on their radar is Golden Arrows striker Lungelo Nguse as Nabi looks to plug his hole up-front – Kaizer Chiefs have only one out-and-out attacker: Ranga Chivaviro.
