Kaizer Chiefs have a while to wait until their match away to Betway Premiership champions Sundowns. They travel minus a key star.
Chiefs without Sirino for Sundowns trip
After his straight red card in Chiefs’ demoralising 4-1 defeat at SuperSport, Uruguayan playmaker Gaston Sirino will play no part against his old club Sundowns. The Brazilians host Amakhosi on Saturday 01 March at 15:30.
Sundowns vs Chiefs H2H isn’t good reading for Nabi
You have to go back to April 2021 for Chiefs’ last win over the South African champions in any competition. Ironically, Uruguayan Gaston Sirino was a goal-scorer for Downs on that afternoon. 33-year-old Sirino scooped 11 trophies with Sundowns in his years at the club but he’s suspended for this clash after his red card against SuperSport.
Downs are unbeaten in each of the last NINE H2Hs across all competitions.
Chiefs want Bhengu as an upgrade on Solomons, Frosler
According to SoccerLaduma, Kaizer Chiefs want to bring former player Lungelo Bhengu back to the club. The 24-year-old defender came through the ranks at Naturena but was deemed not good enough and released in 2019 to Maritzburg. Bhengu, a right-back, is seen as an upgrade on current options Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons. His potential arrival would also allow the club to shift Njabulo Blom back into his preferred central midfield role.
Mdantsane’s Chiefs move was a disaster
Kaizer Chiefs are still counting the cost of Mduduzi Mdantsane’s failed move from Cape Town City to Naturena. Not only was he a youth product they let go for free, but they then shelled out a big transfer fee for the playmaker only to loan him out to Richards Bay.
Will Chiefs upset the odds here?
