Kaizer Chiefs set to lose striker amid European interest

Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley Du Preez has Portuguese side Vitoria SC interested in his services.

It hasn’t been the most prolific of seasons for the former Stellies star, scoring three from fourteen league games, but he must be doing something right, signing a two-year contract extension with AmaKhosi only days ago.

“To be honest I’ve heard that they are going to renew my contract,” Du Preez told iDiski Times.

“They trust in me. So, for me as a player is to give back to them, you know to give back to the club and to work on getting a better contract as a player,

“So, for me is to give back to the club.”

European interest

The speedsters contract extension may be part of a bigger plan for Kaizer Chiefs, who continue to monitor strikers for the upcoming winter window, suggesting a lack of confidence in the 27-year-old.

One could assume that the extension is to avoid Du Preez leaving on a free, allowing the club to make a profit on the Stellenbosch-born star.

When asked about European interest, Du Preez said, “I want to improve and help the team win as many games as we can and for me as a player to improve on scoring goals and help the team win,

“As a player you set goals at the start of the season. But then when things like injuries come along, and all that, you need to reset and refocus and start getting back on goals.”

Should Kaizer Chiefs sell Du Preez?
