Kaizer Chiefs rejected to sign Patrick Maswanganyi

Can you imagine Patrick Maswanganyi in a Kaizer Chiefs jersey? Probably not, but it could have happened.

PATRICK MASWANGANYI WAS OFFERED TO KAIZER CHIEFS

We’ve heard whispers of this story before, but Soccer Laduma’s Thato Basoga has just refreshed our memories. Maswangayi, returning from Portugal in search of a club in Mzansi, was offered to Kaizer Chiefs at the end of 2021, but the then-coach Arthur Zwane reportedly said no thanks.

SuperSport United’s former coach, Kaitano Tembo, had Maswanganyi on trial for several months before leaving the club without making a decision on the player. Gavin Hunt returned to the club, saw Maswanganyi and urgently asked management to sign him.

“Before and while training with SuperSport United, Kaizer Chiefs were off chance to sign or invite Maswanganyi for a trial several times after the left-footed attacker returned from playing in the lower divisions in Portugal,” the report said.

“However, Amakhosi, during former coach Arthur Zwane’s era, did not show any interest.

“After a long spell training with Matsatsantsa, Gavi eventually gave ‘Tito’ his breakthrough in the PSL in August 2022,” the report added.

The Tembisa-born attacker later signed for Orlando Pirates after just six months at SuperSport.
