Kaizer Chiefs received bad news about their top transfer targets

Kaizer Chiefs received bad news about their top transfer targets for next season.

The two South African players based in Portugal, Nkanyiso Shinga and Sphephelo Sithole have gained promotion to the Portuguese top flight.

Shinga’s side FC Alverca finished the season in second place, one point behind Sithole’s parent club, CD Tondela in first.

Shinga has missed the last two games due to an injury but the 25 year old has been the starting left back throughout the season. Going on to make 20 appearances this season.

Sithole has spent the season in the top division with Gil Vicente. His loan spell will come to an end next month, where he is set to return to Tondela. With one year remaining on his current contract.

The bad news for Chiefs

This is bad news for Kaizer Chiefs because both players might feel that they still have a chance to extend their stay in Portugal.

With Shinga, it would mean that he would have to sign a new contract as his deal is coming to an end in June 2025.

“Nkanyiso(Shinga) has been a regular, the number one left back the whole season and is an important member of Alverca.” said Prince Sobayeni, digital analyst as quoted by FARPost.

Sithole however has been riddled by injuries this year and is yet to make an appearance. The Ulundi-born midfielder was declared clinically fit and returned to training with his loan club.

Source gives supporters hope on one target

But a source has revealed that Yaya, as he is known, might be keen to return to South Africa.

A source revealed that Sithole’s decision may have been heavily influenced by former KZN Academy teammate Thabo Cele, who joined Kaizer Chiefs in January. But we cannot be completely sure if Cele was the player to convince him.

“Yaya (Sithole) wants to come back to South Africa apparently. Because a player persuaded Yaya to join him at Naturena,” the source told The South African.

“The only thing now that will cause a problem, is the nature of his contract. Remember he is on loan at Gil Vicente and Sithole’s contract only expires in June 2026. So a fee must be agreed with Tondela, his parent club. Unless the club is willing to terminate his current contract. Which is unlikely.”

Are these the quality signings that Nabi wants and needs?
